What makes this day “good”? This is the question we return to every year. How can we possibly say that the unjust murder of God at our hands is good? It isn’t. And yet we remember that even when the Divine One enters into the deepest and most brutal suffering that we endure or inflict, that God’s love is not broken. God’s power is not conquered. Instead, in this somber service, we contemplate the powerful love of God that willingly embraced suffering and death to break its power over us.
