March 19th presenter Dr. Pat McCormick.
The vast majority of Americans believe everyone should have an opportunity to get ahead by working and studying hard, but half a century of faith in “meritocracy” has hollowed out our once booming middle class, created a growing chasm between the rich and the rest of us, undermined our democratic institutions and resulted in a deepening animosity between America’s wealthiest elite and those left behind. What does our faith and commitment to a just and peaceful society tell us of the dangers of and remedies to “meritocracy”?
Dr. Pat McCormick is a professor in the religion department at Gonzaga University and teaches classes in Christian Ethics and Catholic Social Teaching. If you haven’t heard him, you will be amazed by his presentation. If you have heard him before, you know how he teaches. Please join us in Room 13 following the service.
