Since 1989, Covenant UMC has had a sister church relationship with Buenas Nuevas Lutheran Church in El Paisnal, El Salvador. We have developed deep relationships between our two congregations and the scholarship program, begun over 25 years ago, is an important part of that, giving educational opportunities to the children of their community.
Though the schools are now public, most families are unable to afford the fees, uniforms, shoes, and basic school supplies required to attend. Currently, we support about 100 K-12 students. Some of our scholarship recipients have even gone on to college with the help of individual Covenant families. The Sister Church Ministry Team also supports a separate program called “Saturday School”, teaching basic computer and English language skills to interested students.
$130 provides these items for one child to attend school for a year. 100% of your donation goes directly to a child’s scholarship. There are no overhead fees. (Partial scholarships in any amount are always welcome!)
Checks should be made out to Covenant UMC, with “Sister Church Scholarships” written on memo line, or donations can be made through our secure online donation system – just select Sister Church from the fund drop-down menu.
