Hello Covenant Church Family!
It is an absolute pleasure to finally be here with you. For those I haven’t met yet, I am Pastor Megan Madsen! I am the new pastor here at Covenant United Methodist Church. This upcoming Sunday, July 4th, will be my first Sunday with you, so I wanted to just drop a little note introducing myself.
My husband, James, and I are coming to Spokane all the way from Post Falls, Idaho. We are getting ready to close on our new Spokane home on July 30th. Our dogs are ready to be settled. We love good food, good coffee, running (when it isn’t a thousand degrees outside), and traveling.
As I begin my tenure as your pastor, I want to start off by saying that my door is always open. I’d love to pray with you and get to know you better. We can meet over Zoom, chat on the phone, gather in my office, go for a socially-distanced walk, or grab a cup of coffee. I have been praying for this church for a long time, and I am so excited to finally be here with you all.
This Sunday, we will be starting our first sermon series together. It is called “Becoming the People of God.” It feels like over the past 18 months of this global pandemic, everything we knew changed. We felt scattered to the winds in so many aspects of our lives. As we are beginning to be gathered back together, as we move toward some new normal, as we all evaluate what we have lost and gained over this strange time, may we know that the Spirit of God has never abandoned us. We have never walked alone. We are being “re-membered” into the family of God even as we remember who and whose we are.
This Sunday we will be turning to the creation story in Genesis 1 to remember that God is always creating. For followers of Jesus of Nazareth, we believe that God is making a New Creation. Even now, in the midst of the “old.” Even now, in the midst of us. In this New Creation, ALL persons—regardless of creed, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or socio-economic status—ALL are welcome to the Table of our Lord Jesus. ALL are invited to participate in this new family table, the People of God. Let us feed the family together.
May God bless you and keep you this day, and always.
